Considering Botox?

By Alina H. Winamaker

Botox, under prescription, can be used to smooth away the frown lines between the eyebrows, and other facial wrinkles, that men and women get in middle age. It is most often used in order to smooth out lines. Most people have this type of cosmetic improvement because they feel the lines on their forehead make them look tired or even angry.

Avoid this treatment if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Botox. And common sense dictates that you shouldn't go ahead if there is an infection in the skin surrounding the area being injected. You also should inform your physician before a treatment if you have any issues that affect your breathing such as asthma.

How does it work?

The skin's wrinkles normally form right next to a muscle that is close to, and normally beneath, it.The Botox restricts nerve impulses from reaching the tissue that causes the wrinkle. So, little muscle movement results in the skin supported by the muscle stopping being creased by constant expression contractions. Lines and wrinkles stop forming when muscle contractions are inhibited. As a result, frown lines and other wrinkles are reduced, giving the person a more youthful look.

Using Botox injections for wrinkles is non invasive and the procedure is usually carried out in approximately 20-30 minutes. The site to be treated receives an injection of a small amount of Botox. As the Botox starts working, it blocks the nerve signals to the muscles under the skin. The muscle becomes relaxed and the skin smooths, which makes facial lines diminish.

The skin might be a bit red and sore after the Botox Injection Treatment, but this is normally minor and goes away after a few days. A patient can usually leave the clinic straight away and return to work the same day. It may take up to a week to maximize the full effect, but the treatment usually starts to work within 3 days.

Post-Treatment

After your procedure, the first thing you need to do is try to exercise your treated muscles for one to two hours. You should practice raising your eyebrows, squinting, and frowning. This will work the Botox into your muscles. While this can help, it won't impact your results negatively if you forget or don't have the time to do it.

Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas and, for 4 hours after the treatment, do not do yoga, heavy lifting or any type of strenuous exercise. Moreover, do not ingest Advil, Tylenol or vitamin D after the procedure.

If, after the procedure, you see some tiny bumps or marks on your face, do not be concerned. Within a few hours they will go away.

Make sure whoever is doing your Botox treatment is trained specifically in this procedure. These treatments must be viewed as the medical procedures they are.
