The Increasing Botox Trend

By Ariel Mernal

The public is well aware that having botox treatments is a simple and easy solution to make the skin appear younger. Botox injections have become commonplace in recent times for those who have facial wrinkles and lines, and would like to attain a more youthful appearance. There was a time when people may have thought that botox was a trend that would disappear, but people now realize that it is not going anywhere.

There are sections in newspapers and magazines and segments on television that are dedicated to celebrities that have had botox in order to make their skin look more youthful. There are those who are thinking about the popularity of botox, and wondering why it has gotten so widely accepted.

Well, the answer is simple really. Ageing skin is a big problem, and people know that botox is inexpensive and effective. It's a fast treatment, there are no scars which can happen from plastic surgery, and it is pretty easy on the bank account. More and more people have realized this now, thanks to all the publicity botox treatments receive through celebrity use.

Do Men get Botox?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. The truth is to the contrary. Even though the procedure is more often performed on women, men are getting botox treatments more often nowadays. Some newspaper reports have even gone to the extent of calling it 'bro-tox'! In some areas, men are accounting for about half of the botox injections that they administer.

The trends are always evolving

Botox is becoming more popular all the time. It is estimated that the number of men and women who underwent botox injection rose from 2010 to 2011 by around 5% - that's a rise from 5.4 million to 5.7 million people. Other statistics say that it's 10% that it has been going up, year by year. This rising trend should come as no surprise. There used to be those in society that looked down upon people who have botox treatments, and it was thought to only be done by the richest people, but this is no longer the case, and it is becoming widely accepted by people of all classes and economic situations. As time goes by, more and more people see this as an acceptable treatment method.

That is only part of the story. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Some of these conditions include blepharospasm, spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy in both children and adults. There have been multiple reports of these treatments showing significant benefits for patients. Botox injections can be used to treat excessive sweating, and some have found success in using scalp injections to help to treat migraine headaches.

We can all speculate with certainty that botox is only going to rise in acceptance in time. There are always new studies being done and improvements being made, and the benefits of these treatments seem to be growing in number all the time.
